All Students with Over 65% Marks to Receive Laptops: CM Maryam Announces Major Educational Support

LAHORE/SIALKOT: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched the Honhaar Scholarship Program for Gujranwala Division on Wednesday, during a special ceremony at Government College University (GCWU) Sialkot. The CM distributed scholarships to the top 10 students of the university and expressed her pride in their achievements.

During her visit, she was greeted with enthusiasm by the students who presented performances, including the national anthem, Quran recitation, Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool (SAW), and Kalam-e-Iqbal. CM Maryam shared a warm moment with the students, even posing for selfies with them. She also witnessed an emotional segment when two students, Alina Saeed and Nayab Fatima, shared their educational stories. Alina, from a remote area, praised the CM for her student welfare initiatives, while Nayab spoke about her mother's battle with cancer. Moved by this, CM Maryam announced that the provincial government would cover the costs of Nayab's mother's treatment.

As part of the program, 1,947 students from the Gujranwala division will receive scholarships totaling Rs 8.98 crore, with 1,276 students from government universities, 481 from colleges, and 112 from private institutions benefitting. The CM also directed officials to increase the number of Honhaar scholarships to 50,000 in next year’s budget.

Addressing the audience, CM Maryam announced that all students scoring over 65% marks would be given laptops, highlighting that she personally selected the best available models. Additionally, she revealed plans to distribute 100,000 free e-bikes to students across Punjab. These initiatives are part of her commitment to uplifting the education sector and providing resources to students.

Furthermore, CM Maryam spoke about the improving national economy, noting the decline in inflation and the record-breaking performance of the stock market. She encouraged students to stay focused on merit and warned them not to be misled by those who undermine the nation’s progress. She also emphasized the importance of political integrity and condemned opponents for failing to substantiate corruption claims.
