In Pakistan, consumers are facing another blow to their wallets as the price of chicken meat has surged to approximately Rs900 per kilogram in the first week of January. The sharp price increase has left many in shock, as inflation continues to take its toll on everyday goods.
In Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the price of poultry meat has soared by Rs450 per kilogram, with prices reaching around Rs890. This surge is largely attributed to a significant rise in demand due to the cold weather. Rawalpindi, in particular, has been severely impacted, with live chicken prices jumping to Rs580 per kilogram.
Other cities are also grappling with similar price hikes. Peshawar saw a Rs25 increase per kilogram in just one day, pushing the cost of chicken to over Rs600. Karachi, despite the official rate of Rs635 per kilogram set by the Commissioner, is also feeling the effects, with chicken being sold at around Rs700 per kilogram. In addition, farm eggs in Karachi are now priced at Rs350 per dozen.
Lahore has experienced a similar surge, with chicken prices climbing to Rs700 per kilogram, up from Rs595 just days earlier. This widespread increase in poultry prices is leaving many consumers frustrated and struggling to keep up with the rising costs.
