Sindh Chief Minister Seeks Chinese Investment in Karachi's Transport and Energy Sectors

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, accompanied by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, recently visited Beijing to strengthen economic ties with China. During the visit, the delegation engaged with top executives from major Chinese companies, including Norinco, Beiben Trucks, China North Vehicle Company, and Jiangsu Trade Electro-Mechanical, to discuss potential investments in Sindh's transport and energy sectors.

Focus on Karachi's Urban Transport

A significant portion of the discussions centered on modernizing Karachi's urban transport system. The Chief Minister highlighted the ongoing development of various Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines, noting that the Green and Orange Lines are already operational. He emphasized that the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR), envisioned as the main feeder for the BRT system, has been pending approval from Chinese authorities since 2016. He urged for its expedited completion to enhance the city's transportation network.

Advancements in Energy Projects

The delegation explored opportunities to further develop the Thar Coal resources to expand Pakistan's energy capacity. Discussions included potential projects such as coal-to-gas, coal-to-diesel, and coal-to-urea conversions. The Chief Minister invited Chinese companies to invest in these areas, aiming to boost energy production and stimulate economic growth in the province.

Promotion of Electric Vehicles

In a move towards sustainable transportation, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon met with a Chinese electric vehicle (EV) bus manufacturer in Beijing. He extended an invitation to establish an EV bus manufacturing plant in Karachi, offering incentives such as tax exemptions, land availability, and streamlined regulatory approvals. The initiative aims to modernize public transport, reduce carbon emissions, and create employment opportunities in the region.

Commitment to Economic Collaboration

Chief Minister Shah expressed optimism about these potential collaborations, stating that projects like the KCR, Thar Coal development, and the adoption of modern electric transport represent significant progress for Sindh and contribute to Pakistan's national development agenda. He emphasized the importance of leveraging China's technological expertise to accelerate the province's development and create numerous job opportunities.

These discussions underscore Sindh's commitment to fostering sustained economic and industrial growth through strategic partnerships with Chinese enterprises.
