Pakistan Penalised for Slow Over-Rate in Second South Africa Test
DUBAI – Pakistan’s cricket team has been penalized for maintaining a slow over-rate in the recently concluded second Test match against South Africa in Newlands, Cape Town. The Pakistan players have been fined 25% of their match fees due to their failure to meet the required over-rate, as they were found to be five overs short, even with time allowances considered.
In addition to the fine, Pakistan has also been docked five World Test Championship (WTC) points. The penalties were imposed following Pakistan's 10-wicket defeat to South Africa in the second Test.
According to the ICC Code of Conduct, specifically Article 2.22, players are fined 5% of their match fees for every over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time. Furthermore, the deduction of five WTC points follows Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, which states that a team loses one point for each over short.
The penalties were imposed by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Nitin Menon, third umpire Alex Wharf, fourth umpire Stephen Harris, with match referee Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel overseeing the decision.
Pakistan's captain, Shan Masood, acknowledged the charges and pleaded guilty to the offence.
