Will Saim Ayub Be Part of Pakistan’s Champions Trophy Squad?

The inclusion of top-order batter Saim Ayub in Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy depends on the medical evaluations he will undergo in the United Kingdom.

Ayub was initially ruled out for six weeks after suffering a fractured ankle during the opening day of the Cape Town Test against South Africa. Following the injury, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) arranged for the 22-year-old player to travel to London for specialized medical treatment and further assessment.

On Wednesday, Ayub had his first medical consultation with Dr. Lucky Jeyaseelan, a renowned Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgeon in London. He was accompanied by Azhar Mahmood, the assistant coach of the Pakistan cricket team. A second consultation with Dr. David is scheduled for Thursday.

According to sources, the decision on Ayub’s potential inclusion in the Champions Trophy squad will be based on the medical reports from his consultations in the UK.

In a statement, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi reiterated the board’s commitment to providing Ayub with world-class medical care. Naqvi described Ayub as a key asset for Pakistan cricket and personally reached out to the player to express his best wishes for a quick recovery.

The injury occurred during the second men’s cricket Test against South Africa at Newlands, Cape Town, when Ayub was fielding on the opening day. In an attempt to retrieve the ball, he lost his balance and fell, resulting in the injury.

The outcome of the ongoing medical evaluations will ultimately determine Ayub’s availability for the ICC Champions Trophy, a crucial tournament for Pakistan's cricketing future.
