Sweden's Worst-Ever School Shooting: What We Know So Far

On Tuesday, Sweden witnessed its deadliest mass shooting as a gunman opened fire at Risbergska adult educational center in Orebro, killing 11 people, including himself.

The Suspect

Police have identified the attacker as 35-year-old Rickard Andersson. He was a local resident, legally owned a firearm, and had no prior criminal record. Media reports describe him as a recluse who struggled with unemployment and possible mental health issues.

Authorities believe he acted alone, ruling out any ideological or terrorist motives. When police arrived at the scene, they were fired upon but remained unharmed. The suspect was later found dead, with officials suspecting suicide.

The Attack and Victims

Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, causing panic inside classrooms. Teachers instructed students to lock doors and hide. Police locked down six schools and a nearby restaurant as emergency services responded.

Among the victims, five were in critical condition, while another was receiving treatment for minor injuries. The school primarily serves adults who did not complete their education and immigrants learning Swedish.
