Younis Khan Joins Afghanistan as Mentor for 2025 ICC Champions Trophy
ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s cricketing legend, Younis Khan, has been appointed as the mentor for Afghanistan's national cricket team ahead of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The 47-year-old former cricketer, who previously worked as Afghanistan's batting coach, will bring his vast experience to assist the team in their preparations for the prestigious tournament, which will be hosted in Pakistan.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) officially announced the appointment, highlighting Younis Khan's invaluable expertise, both as a player and a coach. His appointment comes as Afghanistan looks to strengthen their squad and enhance their performance in the Champions Trophy.
Younis Khan, one of Pakistan’s most celebrated cricketers, boasts an illustrious career in which he amassed over 10,000 runs in 118 Test matches and led Pakistan to victory in the 2009 ICC T20 World Cup. Since retiring from international cricket, Khan has held various coaching roles, including a stint as batting coach with Afghanistan and more recently working with Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and as head coach in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
His involvement with Afghanistan's cricket team is expected to play a significant role in preparing the squad for success in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.
